Artist's Statement

Before embracing the freedom of art, I learned the discipline and personality of metals, beginning as an apprentice and then as a journeyman toolmaker. As computer technology and automation became predominant I realized that the craftsman inside of me was not satisfied. Redirecting myself with more primitive tools and processes, I endeavor to uphold fit and function with meticulous construction.

I believe that this union works well and allows me to express my spirit and creativity while maintaining technical integrity. I work to achieve a bold look, using organic textures- not in imitation, but in admiration of nature. Each piece takes on a life of it's own, just as every part of nature- from a wind-scoured tree to a river-polished stone- has it's own story to tell. It fascinates me that no two things are the same. The random patterns and textures of organic matter amaze me and provide me with endless inspiration.

I strive to create unique pieces one at a time, giving the individual elements of every piece all of my attention. Each of my creations will arouse thoughts and emotions, and will stand the test of time...
